SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS BY BUOY
Buoy products are made from recycled OceanBound HDPE Plastic collected from vulnerable waterways and coastal regions with little or poor waste management. Buoy only uses recycled plastic which is processed at its manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, California. All Buoy products are BPA-free and food-grade certified.
Making products with recycled HDPE
Recycled plastic is challenging to process because its melt flow is greatly reduced without additives. Unlike some other manufacturers, Buoy doesn’t use additives to improve flexibility. Instead, the bottle’s shape and moulds were specifically designed to accommodate the material’s flow characteristics during manufacturing.
After years of testing with different factories and moulds, Buoy finally achieved its goal to create food-grade products and were able to bring their products to market.
The surface texture of the bottle has been carefully developed to ensure a slight roughness that achieves a secure fit. Whilst at the same time a matte finish provides the desired aesthetic. Buoy also minimised the bottle components to reduce weight and provide optimal robustness.
The Circular Economy
Buoy bottles can be recycled at the end of their service life in Australian curbside recycling, so that new products can again be made from the plastic.
